Run Fast. Dream Big. Don't Look Back.
Man, I can tell you I'm trying to figure out a lot about life. I have a lot to learn. I have a lot to learn about business and life. I am not claiming I have it all together or know everything. In fact, I'm humbly admitting I don't. I've tried a lot and failed, but I've also succeeded in many ways. I've seen people jump on board and take control of their health with my guidance. I've seen runners reach new goals, and clients get healthier and stronger.
But many days I feel I've let people down. I have not always succeeded with clients or myself. It takes a lot of work and dedication from all sides. I think many of us want quick fixes and want to see change happen overnight or happen without hard work. I can't tell you how many races I've ran that I expected a certain time and didn't even come close. I worked hard, but it just wasn't my day or life just doesn't always go as planned. Injury happens, stress occurs, health drops, hormones get off, or shit happens that we just can't control. Goals are not met and it stinks.
I will tell you one thing though, what I have found most beneficial or successful, is when we put our minds to something, whether we have struggles and ups and downs, we can succeed. It means a lot of hard work, it means some failures, but it also means a lot of positivity and a lot of hope.
I often work from home, sitting at my computer thinking of all the comments that people have told me. "Dang, you have a ways to go." "Uh...Good Luck." "There's no way." "You're too old." "No women over 5'6" competes." "You're too heavy." "You're just not fast enough." "Why do you run?" "You can't make a career out of running." "You're not good enough." "You're not bold enough." "You're too timid." "You just don't have it." "You're not the right fit."
These last two years I have been told no, so much! I've had clients walk away. I've had people just think my running is a ridiculous dream. I know people don't understand me. I know most of us have all experienced this at some point in our lives. You're passionate about something or you have this inkling in your heart to do something greater. It feels crazy or unrealistic. You feel alone or hopeless at times. You have a goal and it seems impossible. But there is hope. That inkling in your soul, that clear vision, you get to decide if you follow it or not. No matter what people say, no matter the journey, there is hope, but you have to believe in it.
My greater hope comes from God. I believe in Him and his call on my life. I know with that comes struggle, but there is hope. That's what I cling to. I cling to the possibilities. I cling to what's true. Not the lies people tell me or the circumstances I'm faced with. There will always be hardship we are faced with, it's what you do in the face of those hardships that change you.
You want to lose weight, well when you mess up, learn from it! Don't dwell on it or let it define you. Take a chance to pick up the broken pieces and start molding them back together. Step by step. If you break a mirror into a million pieces, it's going to take a long time to fix it right? But little by little each piece finds its place. So maybe this is a poor example, we would typically give up on such a project. But think of a building, each step takes time, and guess what? They make some mistakes too. Then they stop, reevaluate, and make some changes. It doesn't happen overnight. If you want to run a 3:00 marathon you're not going to go out tomorrow and do it (unless maybe you're an elite athlete who's been training for years). It's going to take months of training and let me tell you a LOT of failure. You'll push too hard one day, you won't sleep enough, you'll trip and fall, you'll work years on figuring out how to eat for that kind of training, it's a PROCESS! And it TAKES WORK! It's not always going to be easy, but you get to decide how important it is to you and how much you're willing to fight.
It takes HOPE, a lot of STRENGTH, and some GRIT! It's a choice and you get to decide. There will be times when things are outside your control. But stay positive! There is hope! Hang in there.

Never give up!
